Make specific applications Windows XP, Vista and 7 faster when you need to

If you have a fairly new computer, then you might be in luck. Most new computers come with dual core processors, and if so you can take full advantage of this hack. It’s called setting the processor affinity and priority, and tells your computer to give processor cycles to the application that needs it the most.To set this feature:

  1. Press Control + Alt + Delete to bring up the task manager
  2. Right click on the application and first set the priority. For instance, if you want Adobe After Effects to have the highest priority, you’ll want to click on Set High Priority
  3. Then, highlight the Set Affinity option and you will be presented with the option to set advanced options for that particular application

This will tell the operating system to provide more CPU horsepower for the application in question, and hopefully speed up processor intensive tasks (like movie processing and image processing) to take place a tad faster.
